GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In a rare Sunday afternoon non-conference game, the Panthers were unable to hold onto a 1-0 halftime lead as the Cardinals of SVSU came away with a 2-1 win. DU now stands at 5-9-0 on the year and will travel to Madonna on Wednesday.
After dropping a tough 1-0 (2OT) loss to Concordia on Saturday, DU returned home to face GLIAC opponent Saginaw Valley.
Richard Visser (Holland, Mich.) put the host Panthers up 1-0 midway through the opening half at the 28:59 mark on a great scramble play in the box. Mitchell Nol (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was credited with the assist and DU would take the 1-0 lead into the break.
Unfortunately DU was unable to hold onto the lead when a misplayed ball in their own box resulted in an easy goal for the Cardinals to tie the game.
Saginaw then got the game winning goal in the 69th minute on a long pass through the middle of the field that the SVSU forward put by the DU keeper.
The loss sends Davenport to its 6th straight loss but DU's hopes of gaining a bid to the conference tourney are still alive. They will play three games in 10 days beginning with a critical matchup with Madonna in Livonia on Wednesday.
Davenport will then host Siena Heights on Saturday before welcoming back Madonna for their final home game on November 4.
