D3 Hockey Team Defeats Adrian 9-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - With the addition of a few new faces and strong leadership on the ice the D3 hockey team capped off a successful weekend with a 9-1 victory over Adrian College this afternoon.
Davenport got off to a fast start in the first period scoring four goals and shutting down the opposing Bulldogs of Adrian. Justin Welker and Norm Farr started the scoring for the Panthers followed by team captain Ben Duthler to put DU up 3-0. Andy Holtrop, playing his first game at forward, finished the first period scoring with his first goal on the season.
The second period was the same story for the Panthers. DU scored four more goals by Justin Welker, Andrew McCloy, Greg Schmidt, and Sam Waldhart to put Davneport up 8-0. For McCloy and Schmidt it was their first goals on the year. Luke Bonnewell continued his defensive dominance in goal as he shut out the Bulldogs for the second straight period.
In the third period Justin Welker completed a hat trick on the night from teammates Jason Kraemer and Ross Hinkle to complete the 9-1 victory over Adrain.
The win continues Davenport's three game win streak and gives them an overall 13-11 record on the year. They will look to continue their winning ways on Friday, January 16th when they travel to Calvin College. Game time is set for 8:00pm.
