The Men's soccer team entered Saturday's game with alot on the line and knew if they could beat visiting Madonna, they could take firm control of the conference race. Once the game concluded, a 2-1 OT loss, the Panthers found out they are going to be in a fight for the conference championship.
Davenport started off strong yet again as Efrain Hernandez scored his 11th goal of the season to give DU a 1-0 lead. Then the action got ugly as nine cards were given out (seven yellow and two red); all to Madonna players and coaches. And that was just in the first half! Even playing a man down and without the head coach, the Crusaders never quit and scored the game-tying goal with just under 30 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
With the momentum on their side, Madonna scored off a cornerkick after the Davenport keeper dropped the save and the Crusaders left the game with sole possesion of 1st place in the conference.
With the loss, its second straight, DU drops to 7-2-1 on the season and 5-2-0 in conference play. The Panthers will look to rebound when they travel to Indiana Tech on Wednesday, October 3 for a matchup with the Warriors.
