GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's hockey team returned home for the final time before the semester break Saturday night. They were set to take on the Adrian Bulldogs, who handled the Panthers Friday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena.
QUICK STATS
Final Score: Davenport 0 – Adrian 14
Shots: DU 15 | AC 81
Power Play: DU (0/5) | AC (1/7)
Records: DU (3-9-1, 0-5) | #3 AC (9-3, 6-0)
The Bulldogs wasted little time getting in on the action in the first period. They made
Julia Gaynor work by forcing her to make a few tough saves early on. Davenport would get a power play a few minutes in, but Adrian would be the ones who would be taking advantage as Leah Williams scored shorthanded to break the ice, and would be followed up by Bria Fewchuk scoring to make it a 2-0 game. After Kelly-Rae Zdan scored on a nice end-to-end rush, Huntyr Bosher scored to send the Bulldogs into the intermission with a 4-0 lead.
Adrian was able to find a way to score six goals in the second period. Alexa Wyczynski scored to make it a five-goal game. Then, Williams scored two more to pick up the hat trick, followed by two goals from Britt Levasseur and Bosher's second of the game.
Dayna Templeton came in goal in the third period and made some good-looking saves, but she could not keep the Bulldogs off the board forever. Taylor Murcek scored a pair of shorthanded goals, while Cece Werner scored the first two goals of her Adrian career, and Adrian would go home with the 14-0 win.
WHO'S NEXT?
After the Holiday Break, the Panthers hit the road for a pair of meetings with Robert Morris (Ill.). The Eagles are currently 3-14 this season, and 1-3 in Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA) play. They have two more games before they go on their break as they play Aquinas next weekend.
The Panthers are 4-8-2 all-time against the Eagles, and were able to split last season's series on home ice. This year, the two teams will meet at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois.
The first game of the weekend will take place on Jan. 10, with a 7:15 p.m. CST scheduled puck drop.
