Lady Panthers Eclipse 100-point Mark in Win Against Marygrove

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport Women's Basketball team improved to 3-0 on Saturday afternoon with a 101-49 win against Marygrove College. The Panthers raced out to a 46-12 lead at the half and were able to cruise the rest of the way en route to the win. Six Panthers scored in double digits led by Emily Nielsen with 16 points. Davenport will host rival Cornerstone on Tuesday night.
 
For the third time under Mike Williams and for the first time this season the Lady Panthers surpassed the 100-point mark in a game. Davenport shot 48.6% from the field on the game and 59.4% in the second half to come away with the win.
 
Emily Nielsen (16), Linnea Brandholm (15), Kayla Gross (14), Tiesha Stokes (14), Karli Harris (12), and Kendra Cook (11) all scored in double-digits for Davenport to lead a very balanced attack by the Panthers.
 
Davenport was also on the mark defensively forcing 35 Mustang turnovers and coming away with 22 steals led by Kia Frazier's six thefts.
 
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 13-0 lead capped by a Kayla Gross three-pointer and never looked back. The Davenport lead then ballooned to 32-8 when Kia Frazier got a steal and finished with an easy lay-up. Davenport finished the first half on a 14-point run fueled by a pair of three-pointers and a lay-up by Brandholm.
 
Davenport didn't let up in the second half improving on their 40.5% shooting in the first half to shoot 59.4% from the floor in the second half and 48.6% on the game. The Davenport bench was able to outscore the Mustangs 48-7.
 
Davenport will take on Cornerstone on Tuesday night at 5:30 PM in the first game of the Women's and Men's Basketball double-header.
